Beaded Jewelry Care
You will want your new beaded jewelry to last a long time so here are some good tips on how to care for your jewelry:

Beaded Jewelry Care:

Silvers and Gemstones: (silvers including .925 sterling, Turkish .925, Israeli .925 and Bali/Hill Tribe Indonesian .925+ silvers)

Always put on your jewelry after you have finished applying make-up, using hair spray, perfume, hair coloring products or nail products as these items can leave a residue that can harm or dull silver, gold and gemstones. When finished wearing your jewelry, place each piece separately into a zip lock plastic bag (combining items into one bag may cause scratching of the silver or gold). The use of a sealed plastic bag retards the silver's ability to oxidize (tarnish) as it will when constantly exposed to the air. Choose a plastic bag large enough to allow for your jewelry to be stored flat and not all bunched up. This will allow your jewelry to hang properly when next worn. Jewelry should be stored in a clean, dry area.

Some other suggestions:
  1. It is recommended that you put on and remove your handcrafted item carefully as some of the jewelry's components may break if handled roughly. It is also recommended that you remove your jewelry if you will be participating in any activity where an accidental pull may occur as this may break you jewelry.
  2. Do not clean your jewelry with any harsh cleaners as they may clean your silver while permanently damaging the surface of your gemstones.
  3. Do not shower or swim while wearing your jewelry. Chlorine can damage your gemstones.
  4. Never use bleach or bleach-based cleaners. These will break down your jewelry.
  5. Protect your jewelry from extreme heat and sunlight. Most gemstones will fade when left in prolonged sunlight.
  6. Anti tarnishing silver cleaning cloths are great for brightening, removing tarnish and fingerprints. These can be found in your local bead store or at a professional jewelry supply store.
  7. Gemstone jewelry:  Many natural gemstones are soft and therefore a blow or impact could cause damage. It is best to remove your jewelry during any activity where an impact is possible.
  8. Do not use an ultrasonic jewelry cleaner with gemstone jewelry. Soft gemstones will crack during its use.
More information regarding gemstone jewelry:

Natural gemstones are usually treated to improve their appearance and this treatment is usually permanent, requiring little additional care. (Special care instructions listed above). Wipe your gemstone jewelry after wearing with a soft, damp cloth. Doing this provides that your jewelry will be clean before it is stored and enhances the luster of the components. Store your jewelry once it is thoroughly dry.

Gold-filled Jewelry Care:

Gold-filled jewelry will not tarnish like silver therefore its care is easier. Using a soft toothbrush and mild soap and water, gently brush your jewelry. Rinse well with water and pat dry or let air dry. Store your jewelry only once it is completely dry.

Freshwater Pearls Care:

Pearls are even softer than natural gemstones so like natural gemstones, never use in an ultrasonic jewelry cleaner. Clean pearls using a mild soap and warm water. Gently brush with a soft brush (do not use a hard or abrasive brush as this will scratch the surface of the pearl). Do not leave pearls soaking in soapy water. After brushing, rinse with water and pat or air dry. Store when completely dry.
